Georgian Backgammon Set - St. George and the Dragon
Saint George does here what he does on Georgia's coat of arms: rides, strikes, wins. The whole scene — horse, lance and dragon — is hand-carved in a graceful oval frame at the center of this Georgian backgammon set, with scrollwork closing around it like a wreath.
Georgians put their saint wherever protection is wanted: over doorways, on flags, around necks. Carving him onto a handmade wooden backgammon board is the same instinct with better humor — a patron saint for your checkers, presiding over every roll, every block and every loudly demanded rematch. Inside is a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field.
