Four concave sides meeting at pointed corners give this chess set with storage a silhouette no square board has, and a felt-lined drawer underneath takes all 32 wooden pieces. The board is 50 × 50 × 11 cm / 19.6″ × 19.6″ × 4.3″, handmade in Armenia from beech and walnut in a warm red-brown finish.

This is the wooden chess set that gets left out where visitors can see it. The sides sweep inwards, a fine lattice band runs round the field with the coordinates on small brass roundels, and the sides of the box are worked in the same texture down to four low feet. The squares are inlaid in two woods and the whole thing is finished in a reddish tone.

Slide the drawer out and every piece has a felt-lined place — the pieces themselves are carved in light and dark wood with green felt under each base. Full size for real games, with nothing to pack away afterwards. The chess set with drawers for the person who already owns a perfectly good square one.
