Small enough for a weekend bag, this travel chess set closes into its own felt-lined case, with a carry handle cut through the frame, a stippled panel at each end and a scalloped edge. 30 × 30 cm / 11.8″ × 11.8″ open, 15 × 30 cm folded, handmade in Armenia from beech, with 32 wooden pieces and a bag.
This is the wooden chess set for a studio flat and a weekend bag. The frame is smooth walnut-brown wood with the coordinates cut beside the two-tone squares, the only texture is the fine dotted band either side of each handle, and the outline waves gently on every side. Two brass clasps hold it shut.
Inside, both halves are lined in black felt for the 32 turned pieces — light and dark, a few centimetres tall to suit the squares — so they ride in the closed case without a mark. Lift it by the handle or drop it in the bag; either way the set arrives complete.
