A felt-lined drawer under the board holds the 32 cast bronze pieces of this luxury chess set with storage, inside a frame carved with a diamond lattice. The board is 50 × 50 cm / 19.6″ × 19.6″, handmade in Armenia from beech, and stands on four low feet.
This is the wooden chess set for a desk that hosts real games. The squares are inlaid in two woods, the frame carries a fine lattice with the coordinates on small brass roundels, and the sides are worked in a dense textured band above the feet. The pieces are bronze — filigree crowns, knights with flowing manes — on turned bases in light and dark wood.
The drawer pulls out on a small brass knob, lined in felt, with room for every piece; close it and the board is bare and ready. No box to find, no pawn to lose. The chess set with drawers that stays out on the table and looks like it belongs there.
