Backgammon Set with Lion
A lion at rest has nothing to prove — and that is exactly the presence this hand-carved wooden backgammon set brings to the table. The animal fills the whole lid, mane full, paws forward, with no frame or border to hold it in. The carving runs deep, and the mane is where it comes alive: ridge after ridge of texture that catches the light as you turn the board.
Lions have meant power and kingship from Babylon all the way to the Armenian coat of arms, but on a handmade backgammon board the meaning gets friendlier: whoever owns this set hosts the games. Open the bronze clasps and inside is a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field — nardi the way it should be played, with a board worth looking at between rolls.
