Four carved Atlas figures hold up this luxury chess set with storage — a boxed board with three drawers, scrollwork and lattice cut into every side, and 32 hand-carved figural pieces. It measures 60 × 60 × 11 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ × 4.3″, and is handmade in Armenia from beech and walnut.

This is the wooden chess set that anchors a study. The frame round the squares is carved with acanthus scrolls over a diamond lattice, the apron below repeats them with fan-shaped corners, and at each corner a kneeling Atlas takes the load on his shoulders. The pieces are carved as characters — kings, bishops and knights with faces and robes — in light and dark wood.

A brass-handled drawer at the front and one at each side take the whole set between games, so the board is never bare and the pieces are never lost. Given once, kept permanently — the chess set with drawers for the room where the serious games happen.
