An eagle spreads its wings under a crown on the lid of this Armenian backgammon set, rays behind it and a carpet-pattern shield on its breast — the coat of arms of Artsakh, ringed by its name in Armenian capitals — carved on a cross-hatched ground inside a rope rim with leaf scrolls and an oval grip through the wavy-edged lid. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ open, handmade in Armenia.

The other face is the chequered one: pale and darker squares inlaid flush, a carved cartouche of stippled grapes and curling leaves at each end, the grip cut beneath and two small brass-toned clasps on the front edge.

The playing side stays dark and plain: each half is cut with drop-shaped points and, between them, an outline map of Armenia divided into regions; scalloped bar edges, rail and corner troughs and two plain brass-toned hinges finish it.
