Eight raised Armenian capitals spell ՀԱՅԱՍՏԱՆ across the lid of this Armenian backgammon set, with the twin peaks of Ararat rising above them in pale wood against a stippled sky, all inside a leaf-chain oval on a stippled field, with an oval grip through the wavy top edge. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ open, handmade in Armenia.

The reverse pairs inlay and punchwork: the pale squares of the chequered panel are set into the dark wood and stamped with small flowers, with a tall stippled scroll bracket carved at each side, the grip above and two small brass-toned clasps at the front.

Inside, Ararat comes back in line — the two peaks and their foothills incised into each half between rows of drop-shaped points — with scalloped bar edges, troughs along the rails and corners and two plain brass-toned hinges on the spine.
