Eternity Sign and Metal Signs Armenian Backgammon Set with Handle

Eternity Sign and Metal Signs Armenian Backgammon Set with Handle — Handmade in Armenia

Cut as a whirl of overlapping blades that turn about a single point, the Armenian eternity sign fills the beaded roundel at the centre of this carved Armenian backgammon set, with a small cast-metal eternity sign set into a roundel at each end, a fine lattice across the rest of the lid and a cut-out carry handle through the top edge. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 30 × 60 cm folded, handmade in Armenia.

Each blade of the carved sign is a smooth, rounded lobe that steps down onto the next, so the whole roundel reads as a wheel in motion; the two metal signs are brass-toned. On the other outer face of the wooden backgammon board the same two emblems flank a chequered panel of pale and dark squares.

The two halves inside carry the whirl again, inlaid in light wood at the centre of each, with light points and arrow tips around it, rope-carved bars in the handle cut-outs and a dice recess at each corner. Thirty-two turned wooden checkers, two dice and the carrying bag are all supplied.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Is the big sign bronze? The big one is wood — a deep-carved whirl of rounded lobes, not metal at all. Only the four small eternity signs at the ends are cast metal, brass in colour; inside, the signs and points are light wood let into the dark-stained beech.

What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free worldwide and tracked. Every set is covered by our 30-day returns policy.

How do I look after it? Brush the lobes of the sign and the lattice with a soft dry brush and wipe the flat surfaces and metal emblems with a dry cloth. Keep the board out of direct sun and carry it in its bag with the checkers inside.
