Luxury Chess Set with Lattice Ornament and Bronze Pieces
This is the board the lattice family was building toward. A luxury chess set carved in interlocking diamonds from edge to edge — hundreds of hand-cut facets, each one holding its neighbours — and over that carved field, 32 figural bronze chess pieces standing on turned bases. Wood doing its quietest work, metal doing its loudest.
Set the pieces and the whole thing composes itself: bronze catching the window light, the carved ornament running underneath like a woven cloth. Guests will lean in before the first move is played. Opponents will lose a tempo just looking down.
Then the hinges turn and the second game appears — a complete backgammon field inside, 23.6" / 60 cm of nardi waiting under the chess. A handmade chess backgammon set at 19.8 lb / 9 kg: substantial, serious, and never boring. One board for every temperament in the house.
